The Chia Seed

The Chia Seed: Nutritional Benefits | by Freshly Grown

Chia Seeds! So, what’s all the hype? Chia seeds come from a flowering plant in the mint family and are native to Central America. They have been touted as a superfood all the way back to the Mayans and Aztecs. The hype is that for being so tiny, these seeds are packed full of nutrients and energy and can be added to almost anything.

Chia seeds are high in fiber, protein and omega-3s, as well as a host of essential minerals used for the body like iron, magnesium, calcium and zinc. Where can you find these tiny little seeds? Any natural food store will carry them and I  just recently found a bag at Trader Joe’s that happens to be grown in Australia and ‘free from chemical pesticides.’ Nice.
