If you’ve seen this around and haven’t started doing this yet, do it! It’s so easy and way more economical than buying store-bought green cleaner and it works amazingly well. I was actually surprised by this. So…just like with cooking, I don’t do measurements well. I throw a little of this and a little of that in and voila, we’ve got dinner! Same with this. I just found a big jar, poured in some vinegar and threw in all of the citrus peels I had, covered it and let it infuse for 1-2 weeks and I had myself an awesome cleaner. If you want something more precise I think it goes something like this: 16 oz. of vinegar to 2 orange peels (or 1 orange peel, 2 lime peels, you get the idea!).
DIY Citrus All-Purpose Cleaner
Supplies
- The cheapest white distilled vinegar you can find
- Citrus peels (orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit)
- Jar
- Cloth + rubberband (optional if your jar has a lid)
- One of these
- Spray bottle(s)
- A few drops of citrus essential oils
How-To
Get your cheap distilled vinegar
Get some citrus peels and a jar (Every time I juice or cut a lemon or any citrus fruit I stick the peels in this big freezer bag so I always have my peels ready to go. Smart, right? 😉 I thought so.)
I use any citrus: lemon, lime, orange or grapefruit
Pour in the vinegar + peels and cover with a cloth and rubber band. Skip this step if your jar comes with a lid. Let the jar sit for 1-2 weeks to infuse the citrus oils with the vinegar.
Invest in one of these bad boys. Love that it’s collapsible.
Pour your infused mixture in an old spray bottle. Don’t have a spray bottle, you can get a set of three for cheap here. The color should come out something like this. I use a lot of citrus and this infused for awhile so it’s pretty dark.
That’s it! So easy, right? Takes two seconds to pour some vinegar and peels in a jar and it’s an easy rotation as long as you have a few bottles of vinegar in your cleaning cabinet, citrus in your freezer and reusable spray bottles. Have a jar always going and just refill when needed. Let me know how it turns out for you! I have loved cleaning with this stuff, especially the toilet. Wait…did I just say I loved cleaning the toilet? Let me rephrase: I love how clean the toilet gets. 😉
So easy! I am definitely going to be doing this! Will smell much better than plain vinegar!
Totally smells better than plain vinegar. 🙂
